Law Society Operations

After monitoring the rapid developments regarding COVID-19 and considering the advice of public health experts and government officials, the Law Society is taking steps in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID -19. While our core operations will continue, we will be implementing a work at home plan for all employees commencing Wednesday, March 18 through to Friday, April 3, 2020. As a result, effective at 5:00 pm today there will be no public access to the Law Society offices.

As we are transitioning to work from home, we remain available to assist you. You may contact us either by email at our direct email addresses or telephone numbers. For additional information, please check our contact page. You may also send an inquiry to our general email address at admin@lawsociety.mb.ca.

Our response times may be slower than usual but we appreciate your patience.

If you generally communicate with us by courier or postal mail, please use phone or email until further notice.

If you are considering running as a bencher you are reminded that you must submit your nomination electronically to drossol@lawsociety.mb.ca.

Library Services

The Law Library is not open given the recent access restrictions at the Law Courts. We encourage members to use remote access, starting with the collection available behind the Member Portal. For help navigating these resources, please refer to our guide, “Accessing Library Resources behind the Member Portal”, located on our Legal Ease page at lawlibrary.ca. We will continue to distribute the newsletters in our Current Awareness collection. Please contact the library by email (library@lawsociety.mb.ca) for any of your legal research needs.

Please be reminded that all scheduled meetings and CPD sessions have been postponed until further notice. CPDonline remains available on our website.

The Law Society will continue to update you about Law Society operations and services, court notices and practice matters in the context of COVID -19 via email, twitter and on our website.

We very much appreciate and thank you for your patience as we are making complex business decisions in a rapidly changing environment.

There are challenging days ahead for all of us. We all need to minimize the risks of exposure to COVID – 19. You may have questions about your ethical obligations to clients, the court and others and how you are able to comply with those obligations in the face of recommendations from public health authorities that you self-isolate or quarantine. Please contact us if you have an ethical issue you wish to discuss.
