The Law Societies of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are jointly engaged in an initiative to develop a Western Canada Competency Profile (WCCP) to identify the competencies required upon entry to legal practice. The WCCP will help inform lawyer training and education further enhancing lawyer competence in Manitoba to ensure the public is well-served.
Leading this work is an appointed WCCP Task Force, comprised of practitioners, educators, benchers, articling supervisors, and other key stakeholders from across the four provinces, overseen by an Advisory Committee with representation from each Law Society. Consultation with key stakeholders is already underway, with publication of the finalized profile expected in the spring of 2024.
