The Law Societies of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are jointly engaged in an initiative to develop a Western Canada Competency Profile (WCCP) to identify the competencies required upon entry to legal practice. The WCCP will help inform lawyer training and education further enhancing lawyer competence in Manitoba to ensure the public is well-served.

The WCCP Task Force has collected feedback on an initial draft of the profile and is now seeking feedback from the wider legal profession. Those currently in active practice or anyone having held active practising status in Manitoba at some point within the past five years are eligible to participate. To provide your feedback take the survey by Monday, December 18. The survey should take about 25 minutes to complete.

Leading this work is an appointed WCCP Task Force, comprised of practitioners, educators, benchers, articling supervisors, and other key stakeholders from across the four provinces, overseen by an Advisory Committee with representation from each Law Society. The Task Force is working with third-party consultant, ACT Inc. Publication of the finalized profile expected in the spring of 2024.
