The Law Society of Manitoba is committed to protecting the public and helping people understand their rights when working with a lawyer. To support this, we host free public engagement information sessions. These sessions are ideal for community members, social service providers, non-profits, and anyone who interacts with legal services or wants to better understand their legal rights.
Know Your Rights – What To Expect From Your Lawyer
What You’ll Learn in These Sessions
- How the Law Society can assist in resolving concerns with your lawyer, either informally or through the complaints process.
- Understand your rights and what to expect when working with your lawyer.
- Get advice on what to do if your lawyer is unresponsive or not taking action, including tips for effective communication.
- Information on free legal resources and follow-up materials.
We’ll also cover frequently asked questions such as:
- How do lawyers charge for their services?
- What is considered good service from your lawyer?
- Is your lawyer required to discourage you from starting or continuing useless legal proceedings?
- When can your lawyer stop representing you?
