Annual Fee Notices
Fees are set annually by the Chief Executive Officer. All practicing and non-practising lawyers will receive an email 30 days prior to the due date advising of the amount. Personalized invoices are available through the member portal.
Fees are pro-rated for lawyers entering or resuming practice. Contact the Law Society for an individualized invoice.
Late Payment Penalties & Suspension
Late payments are charged $10 per day until the fee is paid, to a maximum of $300. This is permitted under Law Society Rule 2-87(1). The Chief Executive Officer, in exceptional circumstances, may waive or reduce this penalty. A member who fails to pay the required annual practising or insurance fee plus any penalty within 30 days of the due date is automatically suspended (Rule 2-88).
Refunds for previously paid fees are permitted, subject to the following:
Refunds will be pro-rated on a monthly basis, calculated from the first of the month following receipt of the application to withdraw from practice.
Refunds will be payable to the party who paid the practising fee, unless the Society is advised otherwise.
A refund fee of $100 plus GST will be applied to all refunds.
A refund will not be permitted where the net refund is less than $200.
Refunds are not permitted if the member has been suspended or disbarred.
Cheques are to be made payable to The Law Society of Manitoba. Please check your invoice to see whether alternate forms of payment are permitted.
Receipt of payment is available on the member portal for most fees. Please contact the Law Society if you have any questions.
