Congratulations Karen Busby
2025 Richard J. Scott Award Recipient
Ms Busby is a recent retiree of the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Law following 35 years of excellence in teaching and research in the areas of Violence Against Women, Sexual and Reproductive Rights, Queer Issues, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Right to Water.
In addition to imparting her vast knowledge to generations of law students, Ms Busby dedicated her career to advocating for human rights and equality in Canada and her works have been cited with approval by Canadian courts at all levels.
Another enduring contribution to the legal community was Ms Busby’s work as the editor of the Manitoba Queen’s Bench Rules Annotated from 1992 to 2020, the preeminent resource for Manitoba’s civil litigators for all civil procedure issues.
This Award was created in 2013 in honour of Richard J. Scott, former Chief Justice of Manitoba and is awarded annually to an individual who advances the rule of law and contributes to a strong and independent legal profession through advocacy, litigation, teaching, research, writing or mentoring.
