The Law Society of Manitoba sends its condolences to members of the Tk’emlúps te Secwe’pemc First Nation and all Indigenous peoples on the horrific discovery of the bodies of 215 children at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops. We recognize the enormous harm the residential school system has caused, the effects of which continue to impact survivors, their families and communities to this day. We are committed to working with Indigenous peoples to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and ensure the legal profession understands this dark chapter of our history. Our thoughts go out to Indigenous communities at this difficult time.
